Aker Carbon Capture to deliver five Just Catch units and equipment for over EUR 200 million to Ørsted bioenergy plants in Denmark
Aker Carbon Capture has been awarded a large-scale carbon capture project by Ørsted, a global leader in renewable energy, for its Ørsted Kalundborg Hub in Denmark. As the carbon capture provider, Aker Carbon Capture will deliver five Just Catch units, additional equipment such as liquefaction systems, and temporary CO2 storage and on-/offloading facilities with an expected total contract value above EUR 200 million. The carbon capture facilities will be delivered to Ørsted’s wood chip-fired Asnæs Power Station and the Avedøre Power Station’s straw-fired boiler and combined will have an installed design capture capacity of 500,000 tonnes CO2 per year.

Aker Carbon Capture made important progress on existing projects in the first quarter of 2023, with revenues reaching NOK 287 million, which was up 99% compared to the same period last year. The cash position at the end of the quarter was solid at NOK 1.3 billion. The company’s flagship projects, Brevik CCS and Twence CCU continued to progress and are the most mature large-scale carbon capture projects under construction in Europe today.
Aker Carbon Capture awarded test campaign and study for Fortum Waste Solutions in Denmark
Aker Carbon Capture has been awarded a test campaign and feasibility study for Fortum Waste Solutions’ facility in Nyborg, Denmark. Fortum’s waste incineration plant is specialized in the safe destruction of hazardous waste and turning it into energy. The planned capture capacity will be around 170,000 tonnes CO2/year.

Aker Carbon Capture selected by Viridor as partner on pre-FEED study for Runcorn CCS
Aker Carbon Capture will support Viridor in the provision of a pre-FEED study for the Runcorn CCS project, which is located around 20 km from Liverpool. When in operation, the facility will be one of the first large scale carbon capture projects at an energy-from-waste facility in the world. The pre-FEED study explores the installation of a carbon capture plant in the HyNet cluster, part of the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Track 1 sequencing process, capturing around 1 million tonnes CO2 per annum.

New flagship project for Aker Carbon Capture in the UK
To develop the groundbreaking Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station, UK energy company SSE Thermal and Equinor have selected a consortium of Aker Solutions, Siemens Energy and Doosan Babcock, with Aker Carbon Capture as the carbon capture provider. The consortium has been awarded the FEED contract for the gas-to-power plant equipped with carbon capture technology to be built in the Humber region. Aker Carbon Capture and the consortium have agreed on the essential key terms and expect to sign the formal agreement shortly.
Start of construction of CCU project at Twence’s waste-to-energy plant in the Netherlands
Aker Carbon Capture has officially commenced building its Just Catch™ modular carbon capture plant at Twence’s waste-to-energy plant in Hengelo, the Netherlands. Building activities at the site were kicked off with the unveiling of the construction board. The plant will reduce CO2 emissions associated with the generation of energy from the incineration of non-recyclable waste. The captured CO2 will be used in liquid form in the greenhouse horticulture sector. By the end of 2023, the Just Catch™ standardized plant will start capturing 100,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
