In Aker Carbon Capture we aim to combine the best of both worlds, bringing together talented change-makers at the start of their career and highly experienced industry professionals with detailed knowledge on carbon capture. The company was just 3 months old when we recruited our first part-time intern, and since then we’ve had a continuous flow of young talent working with us in enabling scale and deployment for the carbon capture market. By having a flexible part-time internship, this allows the interns to work side-by-side their carbon capture colleagues in hands-on tasks that bring direct value to either bottom line savings of top line growth. They are truly a fully integrated part of the team!
For Aker Carbon Capture, the opportunity to constantly be both challenged and supported by the latest talent from academia is a privilege that helps us keep our foot on the low-carbon gas pedal! Also, it is a valuable funnel for recruitment when extra talented individuals come along. And when an intern moves from having a part-time job with Aker Carbon Capture to joining our permanent ranks in the fight for industrial decarbonization, we make sure to celebrate! One such example is Mathias, who started our as a intern in Market Insight and Commercial Operations, and recently was hired as a full-time R&D Engineer in the Technology & Innovation department – Bravo Mathias!
Take the time to read his story below, and maybe you end up considering an internship at Aker Carbon Capture yourself.

My first day as an intern at Aker Carbon Capture was around a year ago. I was greeted by great and ambitious coworkers right away, getting a firsthand look at what it’s actually like to work for a fast-growing and highly dynamic green company. Working with Market Insight & Commercial Operations has improved my understanding of the carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) industry as a whole and how Aker Carbon Capture can help shape the energy industry for future generations.
Being an intern at Aker Carbon Capture is unique because of all the responsibilities and trust you are given right away. Personally, I worked with everything from competitor and market analysis to technology deep-dives and 3D-printing projects. The difference between an internship at Aker Carbon Capture and those at other organizations is knowing that the work you do will have a significant impact and even be used by executive management. Being able to work around 50% besides studies by combining days at the Fornebu office with home-office work also shows the flexibility of an Aker Carbon Capture internship. After one year as an intern, I am left with valuable experiences as well as strong personal development within several areas. The “icing on the cake” was also being able to rotate between different departments based on desires.
Finally, I am happy to share that I was promoted as a full-time R&D Engineer in the Technology & Innovation department after my internship. Aker Carbon Capture is always looking for the next generation of young talents to take on the largest challenges – helping industry to reach their net-zero targets.
